2020 Ramato
Our Ramato revives the oldest tradition of making white wine, dating back 2,000 years to the city of Friuli, Italy, where winemakers would create their white wine by keeping the skins on during fermentation, just like red wine is made today. This maceration period allows the wine to develop deep and more complex flavors, higher tannins, and a beautiful copper color – creating the perfect blend between a light white wine and a flavor-enhanced red wine.
The word “Ramato” means copper or auburn in Italian, a tribute to the orange-pink hue that develops through the Pinot Grigio grapes’ extended stay on the vine and weeks-long maceration period. We keep our Ramato on the skins for 18 days before transferring to Neutral French Oak barrels for 6 months, resulting in a distinctive wine with notes of baking spices, dried fruit, tart stone fruit skins, and an herbaceous nose – the perfect sunset wine.
